We’re so thankful that this Airbnb’s name is literal. To the hosts of The Wandering Peacock, the internet thanks you.
Round up the gang for a weekend in rural west Connecticut at a certified Airbnb gem. The home, set in a renovated barn (our favorite) and adorned with eclectic antiques & oddities, is unique on its own. Add a couple peacocks to the mix and you’ve got yourself a weird weekend.
The hosts keep a pen with two peacocks and chickens in the backyard. A brief history from their Airbnb profile: “Our neighbor gave us two pet peacocks that have become our home mascots.” (It’s very possible that will never hear that statement again in your life.)
Inside, there’s more to explore throughout the converted barn. The home is full of distinctive decor, including peacock artwork, stained glass, and an early-1900s gramophone. The listing also mentions a mirrored dance studio (yes please) and by request, an outdoor movie set up.
Nearby, there’s much to explore. Besides one of our favorite discoveries, Sculpturedale, there’s also Kent Falls, downtown Kent, Bulls Bridge, and many local farms.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Out of the Airbnb’s many reviews, there are a couple of negative comments regarding cleanliness. We made sure to read every single review to ensure this was a rare case. (Personally, we’re willing to roll the dice when peacocks, quirky barns, and dance studios are involved.)
The rental is part of a larger house that includes two independent units. The hosts live in the other unit.
Past guests have noted that the home is near a relatively busy road, so you may hear some traffic during your stay.
