Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm is a bit of an anomaly in the realm of today’s Catskills lodging options – a fact that’s made immediately obvious by its (objectively-awesome) name.
The B&B and kayaking outfitter has only one room and is far removed from its trendy hospitality counterparts around the region. In place of a “design-forward aesthetic” or Malin+Goetz toiletries, it offers a simple and scenic escape: a bed, a breakfast, and a kayak.
Located on Lake Wawaka – right beside a waterfall – Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm features a comfy suite with lake views and a peaceful deck. With only one room, the Catskills hidden gem offers the chance for a particularly calming and personal experience – emphasized by the breakfast cooked for you by Susan herself, a frequent highlight throughout past guest reviews.
While they rent out kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards to the public, you have the lake to yourself outside of business hours. In addition to the obligatory water activities, there are on-site trails and a nearby swimming hole. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot blue herons, beavers, and other wildlife around the lake.
